“Being raided and hit with criminal charges can debilitate business operations and result in long-term reputational damage. Criminal exposure can include prison terms of up to 10 years per count, fines of up to $500,000 per count and forfeiture of assets.”—Chris Thomas, immigration attorney

Comply confidently with I-9 and immigration compliance changes
If you think you’re in compliance with immigration policies, it’s time to check again. President Trump is cracking down on illegal immigration and implementing a program of mass deportation. The implications continue to rock companies across the U.S., and failing to comply can prove costly.

New initiatives include the aggressive pursuit of criminal penalties for employers who knowingly employ immigrants who are not lawfully authorized to work in the United States. Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids on workplaces have increased, and the attorney general has instructed federal prosecutors to treat immigration-related offenses as their investigative and charging priorities.

In addition, DHS officials have ramped up inspections of employer I-9 files. These Employment Eligibility Verification audits have increased tenfold since January. Often, ICE agents serving audit notices have arrested workers at the same time. That all amounts to a host of challenges for employers. Questions abound, and employers need answers in this fast-evolving situation.

On December 16, join immigration lawyer Chris Thomas as he gets you up to speed on this rapidly changing topic. Chris is often quoted in major media outlets like The Washington Post and The New York Times and business publications like Forbes. This online workshop is the ideal compliance training for anyone who handles I-9 forms and immigration issues.

“ICE sets quotas to deliver on immigration crackdown on employers”

"We are seeing audits at the usual suspects: hospitality, construction and food processing. And with the same frequency in red states as blue states.”

Washington Post

“Trump Targets Workplaces as Immigration Crackdown Widens”

“Employers do not appear to grasp the depth and breadth of options DOJ and DHS may have to bring enforcement actions. Though these agencies have shown restraint in the types of criminal cases they have brought in the past, employers should not make the mistake of assuming prior enforcement activity will serve as any indication of what may be coming.”

“New DOJ Whistleblower Policy Bad News for Employers of Immigrants and H-1B Visa Holders”

“If you know you have undocumented workers, and you’re not severing ties with them at this stage, you’re in a position where they’re coming pretty soon. If you wait until they arrive on the scene it’s probably too late.”
